My Favorite Oil Control Products

I've mentioned so many times that my face is such and oil mine! So I thought I'd share my favorite products to keep oil at bay.

First, here are my favorite oil control film products. I prefer film to paper, since film is much more absorbent. The Clean and Clear yellow paper is one of my favorites because it has SPF 20. Perfect for retouching your sunscreen throughout the day. This is P120 (around $2.40) for 50 sheets. Gatsby Oil Control Film is the cheapest that I have found in the market. It's only P90 (less than $2) for 70 sheets. Before I used to buy Rustan's Essences Oil Control Film which was cheap at P50 ($1) for 50 sheets but this was phased out by Rustan's. I wonder why.

This is the most heavy duty primer I've used so far. This is the ever famous Monistat Anti-Chafing Gel. However, I can't use this everyday since I get whiteheads. But this really helps control oiliness.

Here are my favorite mineral finishing powders when it comes to oil control. In order from left to right: Lauress Fantastic Finish (old formulation), Ellana Sheer Velvet High Definition Powder, Aromaleigh Ultra Resolution Finishing Powder. Good old silica powder is also an inexpensive way to control oiliness.

For those who aren't into mineral makeup or other loose powder forms, there's also MAC Blot. This is more expensive than anything else I've shown in this entry.

What I love about these powders is that they come out as sheer, so they don't compromise your makeup. I've tried a lot of oil control powders (non-mineral) which look like a mask, and worse, as I keep on reapplying it throughout the day, it cakes. There is nothing worse than a face that looks cakey that screams, "Yes I TRIED to put on makeup!" Tried being the key word.

Remember, if you are looking for a product with good oil control, the following ingredients would be most suitable: silica, kaolin clay, silk powder, rice powder.

I'd like to try on Avon Magix Skin Protector SPF 20 because of Nikkiz' (notjustminerals) rave, but it's not available in the Philippines. For now, I'll just have to do with these.

What about you? Is there a good oil control product you'd like to recommend?

khymm, wah! i'm so outdated. would you believe that i don't know what my MAC shade is? i don't have my own MAC foundation. the SA sa MAC said that i'm an NC 30, but it looked a little off to me, but that was when i tried their concealer.

^yumeko, thanks! i hope you have some idea on what to do with my pen liner.

I can't live without oil blotters. Gatsby films are what I usually get but when I can't find them, I get Clean & Clear films instead.:)

I noticed that I get less oily during the day when I dust baby powder on my face before putting on foundie.:)

Great blog, by the way!:)

hi dear! thanks for that! i also put a layer of primer powder before my foundation to help with the oiliness but so far, even with the combined efforts of different products, i can only stay oil-free for 3 hours.

i have oily skin too and like i you, i also use clean & clear in blue or pink. if that's not available than i use gatsby.

oil film is definitely a staple in my cosmetic kit. thanks for this post. very helpful! by the way, where do you purchase your monistat? i've been so curious about this product.

Crystal said...

^unfortunately, monistat is not available in the philippines. you can buy them online however. occasionally, i also see girls doing pre-buys for this. you can join one. it won't cost more than P500.

If I may ask, which primer do you find effective in keeping oil at bay?:) Planning to get one soon.

^hi soapaholic! like i mentioned, monistat anti-chafing gel is so far the best primer to keep oil at bay. but i can't use it everyday because it makes my skin rough. other good primers i use are bare naturals s5 primer and camellia rose skin soothing primer. they don't keep my face oil-free as well as monistat though!

you can also try powder primers that are available in mineral makeup brands :)

Thanks!!! I'm really interested to try MMU, so I think I'll order a primer along with foundie. Thanks so much, this is very helpful!

Monistat also gives me whiteheads/ zits if I use it everyday so for special occasions lang sya. It's the AVON that I really love and I wished it were sold locally. Someone at multiply does regular sprees from online stores in the US and I always join in. You can order from Avon USA if you like to try it. Message me if you want to know the seller's namen.

Hi there. Where did you get your Monistat primer here in the Philippines? I saw it once on a multiply site, but it was already sold out :( Been looking for this for ages. I don't want to keep asking people to get this for me no matter how inexpensive it is.

hi tish! i bought this once from a girltalker. ocassionally, someone from multiply or girltalk does preorders for this for about P500. you can lurk around multiply and try to find one that does. hope that helps!

Im an avid fan of Oil Blotting Sheets since I have really oily skin. My personal choice is Chambuu blotting sheets since it's organic and it doesn't have any fragrance (I have rhinitis so I am avoiding tissues that has perfume in it).

You can purchase it here: http://amzn.to/1Rg1Kjt and use this code: WYMBLF6S for discounts. Discount code is working (I just tried it yesterday).
