Product Review: The Face Shop Professional Makeup Base #01 Green

Hello everyone! Today, I will be reviewing The Face Shop Professional Makeup Base.

 Product Description:

Oil-free, non-sticky makeup base helps skin banish unwanted shine for fresh makeup. Green neutralizes redness and evens out skin tone.

As you know, green colors are commonly used to neutralize redness.

So here it is when swatched:

 

 And here it is when it's blended in my hand. The lower part is where I blended it. Notice that it turned a bit whiter than the top of my hand:

 

You only actually need a small amount for the whole face, or else you will get a whitish cast. So yeah, a little goes a long way. The Face Shop website recommends this for combination to oily skin. Wanna know why? Because it's oil-free! Music to my ears.

So here's the rundown of pros and cons:

PROS

• oil-free and non-sticky!
• a little goes a long way
• actually does a good job of neutralizing redness

CONS

• can be drying for people with dry skin
• I don't recommend this for morenas. This is better off for people who are on the fair side or else it will produce an ugly whitish cast. I find that for green, the fairer the skintone, the better the result.
  
• Use a small amount even for fair people so it won't produce a whitish cast.
  

TIP:

• Make sure to moisturize well before applying this. Even in my oily face, it tends to bring out the peeling spots (because of my tretinoin usage).

So because I love you so much, I will actually show you a picture of my face without makeup. As you can see it's very splotchy especially around the cheek area, and I'm breaking out in my chin area. The good news is that my face no longer looks like this because I recently had Pixel Laser on my face. This picture was pre-Pixel.

 

So here is how I look like after applying a small amount of the makeup base:

 

It looks all white right? Eww. But as you can see, it did cover up the redness.

So here's how I look like after foundation. I used Earthen Glow Cover Me Foundation in Yuan Yuan:

 

It no longer looks icky white. Notice that my skin tone is more even. Don't mind my eye area, though. I still haven't place concealer yet.

Will I buy this again? Yes. This retails for P355 (around $8)

Product Review: The Face Shop Pure Blossom Mini 02 Blooming Glow

Hello everyone! How is everyone doing? So anyway, I'd like to share with you my review of this. I first learned about this product from Anastacia and I got curious. After reading some reviews about this in GirlTalk, I was sold! This is available in 2 shades, but I'll be reviewing 02 for today. 02 is very hard to find. It's OOS in most branches but I found this baby in Festival Mall.

Here is a picture with my hand to give you an idea about the size. I was surprised to find that it is indeed MINI. LOL.

Here it is when it's opened. As you can see it's made up of tiny balls or different colors ALA Guerlain Meteorites or the Paul and Joe powders from the Disney collection. Haha. It also comes with a small brush that you can store in the bottom compartment.

Don't think that these are like the Guerlain meteorites that can be applied all over the face. These are very shimmery, so you can only use them on certain areas.

Here is a swatch of 2 swipes of the Pure Blossom balls. As you can see it is very light, but it's buildable. A couple of swipes is enough for very fair-skinned people, but darker people will need a few more swipes. Because it's very sheer, I find this to be quite versatile!

So let's do a rundown of the pros and cons:

PROS

• Very versatile: this can be used as blush, or added on top of blush, or just on the apples of the cheeks to give extra oomph!
• The brush that it comes with is soft and not scratchy
• Smells good!
• Lasts all day on my uber oily skin
  

CONS

• Might have a hard time showing up on morenas
• Some people might not like the fragrance
• The brush can leave you with a "strip-looking" blush. It's better to use another brush for applying it.

Will I buy this again? Yes!

Here's an FOTD of me wearing Pure Blossom 02 alone on my cheeks. Notice how it goes on very light, just enough for a slight pinkish glow and for the light to hit my cheeks.

Recent Hauls + Award

Over the past two weeks, I've been buying stuff that I need for makeup school. And since I'm just studying and not really a makeup artist, I'm just buying some affordable stuff and I'm not buying high end products just yet. I bought Celeteque because we need an alcohol-free toner, Pond's Cold Cream, Petroleum Jelly, Maybelline Cat Eyes Mascara (both Ms. Gina and Ms. Nina love this mascara) and some Maybelline Vivid and Smooth liners. For you Maybelline fans out there, Maybelline is 20% off for all the weekends of August in Robinson's Galleria!

From HBC, I bought a cover cape so that I won't spill or stain my model/client's clothes. I also bought a San San pencil brush. Ms. Nina is so fond of using this brush to smudge the eyeliner in the lower lashline so I bought one for myself for only P65! I also bought a cherry chapstick for doing men's makeup. And from The Face Shop, I bought a taupe eyebrow pencil, which Ms. Gina recommends.

I also bought a couple of pieces from Graftobian, a brown cake eyeliner, and a concealer wheel. In my classes, I've learned the importance of having an orange concealer (and yes, I do mean bright orange) especially when doing makeup for people with darker skin tones. I mix it with regular concealer and it makes concealing dark spots so much easier. I prefer a brighter orange as compared to the orange corrective color of MUFE because I find that too light to use on darker people.

Anyway, I am BROKE!

2. I'm not a shoe person! I rarely buy shoes because I'm too lazy, and I love wearing flip flops more.
3. I'm also not a bag person. Unlike most gals who love collecting bags and shoes, I'm happy with just one or two bags that I know will serve me well. I'm too lazy to transfer my stuff from one bag to another.
4. I'm hoping to take my graduate studies in the US in the next two years.
5. I'm really short and I wish I were taller, but I'm not fond of wearing heels since I do a lot of walking and standing.
6. I hate liver!
7. I get migraines easily. I just need to walk under the sun for 1 minute and here comes the headache!
