Belle de Jour Event + MusicalfanLovesMinerals Turns 1!

Hello everyone! I'm terribly sorry for the lack of updates. I've just been very busy. Last Oct 25, I attended a Belle de Jour Event in Eastwood Mall where there were a lot of freebies like free fortune telling, free ice cream, free massage by The Spa, free hairstyling by Azta, etc. There were also some talks about fashion and beauty and our favorite planner was sold at a special price! The best part is that some of the proceeds of the event were given to the victims of Ondoy.

So why am I rambling?

It will be Musicalfan Loves Minerals' 1 year anniversary soon, so I would like to give one lucky girl her very own Belle de Jour Planner!

Product Review: Maybelline Volume Express Cat Eyes Mascara

Hello dearies! How is everyone? Today I'm going to be reviewing Maybelline Volume Express Cat Eyes Mascara.

photo taken from www.facebook.com

When I went to Basement Academy, both my teachers had this and loved this! So, I just HAD to try it out.

This mascara doesn't use the normal comb as its applicator. It uses a comb, which in my opinion lessens clumping as compared to a wand.

So here is the rundown of the pros and cons:

PROS
>>affordable!
>>waterproof
>>does add length and volume (although not insanely dramatic)

CONS
>>still clumps a bit but nothing a mascara comb can't fix
>>despite the fact that it's waterproof, it still smudges on me after 5-6 hours because I have really oily lids

Note: this held up well on everyone who tried this except for me. Yes, I'm unbelievably oily.

So to see the effect, here's a picture of my bare lashes curled with my Fanny Serrano eyelash curler:

Here is the effect after one coat of mascara:

Can you see the difference? My lashes definitely became longer and a bit thicker after one coat. I feel that one coat is already enough for me because I really see a big difference!

Will I buy this again? Yes. Because it held up well on everyone except for me, I'll continue using this for other people. But for myself, I have to try another mascara or find a good base/top coat to prevent smudging.

Makeover!

One of my good friends, Marie, asked me if I could do her makeup on her recital. And of course, I said yes! So I'd just like to share with you her before and after pic.

As you will notice, she's not wearing any lipstick or lipgloss, because she's a bassoon player and lip products just get in the way. Likewise, I don't use any lip products also while playing (except maybe for a lip and cheek tint).

So here it is! I'll try to remember all the stuff I used on her. Pardon some discrepancies on the before and after pic. The before pic was only taken by a camera phone, while the after pic was taken on a DSLR.

FOTD time!

Hello friends! I know I've been busy lately but hopefully I'll be able to post more the next few weeks. Anyway, let me just leave you first with an FOTD I did the other day. Since I went to makeup school, I've steered away from doing the darkening of the outer crease since I realized that it does not work for me because I'm mono-lidded and it was also advised to be. I now do the darker-in-the-bottom-and-lighter-going-on-top and I find that it suits me better.

Most of the e/s I used are from Urban Decay which I totally love!!

Product Review: The Face Shop Pure Blossom Mini 02 Blooming Glow

Hello everyone! How is everyone doing? So anyway, I'd like to share with you my review of this. I first learned about this product from Anastacia and I got curious. After reading some reviews about this in GirlTalk, I was sold! This is available in 2 shades, but I'll be reviewing 02 for today. 02 is very hard to find. It's OOS in most branches but I found this baby in Festival Mall.

Here is a picture with my hand to give you an idea about the size. I was surprised to find that it is indeed MINI. LOL.

Here it is when it's opened. As you can see it's made up of tiny balls or different colors ALA Guerlain Meteorites or the Paul and Joe powders from the Disney collection. Haha. It also comes with a small brush that you can store in the bottom compartment.

Don't think that these are like the Guerlain meteorites that can be applied all over the face. These are very shimmery, so you can only use them on certain areas.

Here is a swatch of 2 swipes of the Pure Blossom balls. As you can see it is very light, but it's buildable. A couple of swipes is enough for very fair-skinned people, but darker people will need a few more swipes. Because it's very sheer, I find this to be quite versatile!

So let's do a rundown of the pros and cons:

PROS

  • Very versatile: this can be used as blush, or added on top of blush, or just on the apples of the cheeks to give extra oomph!
  • The brush that it comes with is soft and not scratchy
  • Smells good!
  • Lasts all day on my uber oily skin

CONS

  • Might have a hard time showing up on morenas
  • Some people might not like the fragrance
  • The brush can leave you with a "strip-looking" blush. It's better to use another brush for applying it.

Will I buy this again? Yes!

Where and how much? at The Face Shop for P595.00 (approx. $12)

Here's an FOTD of me wearing Pure Blossom 02 alone on my cheeks. Notice how it goes on very light, just enough for a slight pinkish glow and for the light to hit my cheeks.

So what are your thoughts?

Just for Fun!

How is everyone doing? I've been trying to post since yesterday but I've been having trouble with blogger. As you all know, we are still recovering from typhoon Ondoy, I hope everyone is doing better already. To those who can help, please do. A lot of people are very needy right now.

Anyway, on to a lighter note, I'd just like to share with you something I did a few weeks back. This was for a "beauty pageant" in UP where straight guys compete as girls. My model, was supposed to be imitating Madonna, so this is the look I came up with.

I forgot to take a picture of him with a straight face because I did this in a hurry. He has a lot of stubble on his chin and on his upper lip, which was a challenge covering with concealer. I wasn't able to cover it completely. I'll do better next time. The before picture was taken from a camera phone while the after picture was taken with flash. haha. How about you? Have you ever tried turning a boy into a girl?
