Product Review: L'oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara

With the popularity of mascaras that use tubing, I was really anxious to try one. I loved Blinc Kiss Me Mascara, but it's expensive so I was really thinking twice about buying that since mascaras don't last long. In my search for a good inexpensive mascara, I've tried so many different waterproof mascaras. Unfortunately, it would seem that no waterproof mascara could withstand my uber oily lids. Thankfully, I went to the US and got myself a tube of this for only $8.

The mascara is double-ended. The primer end, coats the lashes with a film of white. I don't really know what it's supposed to do. The other end is the actual mascara end.

So here's how my lashes looked like:

From left to right: lashes curled w/o mascara, one coat of mascara, two coats of mascara

As you can see, there isn't much difference on the first coat, but there is a big difference in length in the second coat.

How did it fare? I'm so happy to report that this does not smudge the whole day with me! Even for 10 hours. On really hot days, it does flake a little, but I find I can just flick it away. This is so much better than conventional mascaras, when the smudges can only be taken out with makeup remover and putting concealer just makes it worse!

To top it all off, it easily comes off just by pulling the tubes out with wet fingers. No more tedious removal using a makeup remover! And yet, I've never lost an eyelash. Just pull gently :)

As you can see, this mascara is a good product for my needs. Here are the pros and cons:

PROS
  • does a good job for lengthening
  • no smudges even for long periods of time
  • comes off easily with water

CONS
  • does not do much for volume
  • some people might find the two-step application too much of a hassle
  • can flake when it's extremely hot

Conclusion: I find that this is a good everyday mascara especially if you have long lashes already, but you'll need a different one for more va-va-voom lashes.

Will I buy this again? Yes!

TIP: Wait for L'oreal to go on sale, since I find this mascara to be quite expensive for a L'oreal mascara at P800+.

What I've Got So Far

Hello everyone! I'm sorry I haven't been blogging. Our internet has been extremely slow lately thanks to our bad router, but now that it's better I'm hoping that I'll be able to blog more. However, I'm still very much lacking in material to blog about to blog as often as I want, being abroad and all. Thanks for bearing with me.

I'd like to show you the beauty-related stuff I got so far. It's not much. I'm obviously taking my time in buying. It's hard because I'm on a budget and I'm not working while I'm here. This is strictly for vacation. Anyway, I bought other stuff too like shoes and clothes, but I won't bother you with the details of that. It's really nice here because there are sales left and right! If I were living here, I'd probably be buying shoes all the time!

Anyway, enough of that. Here's what I have so far:

These are things I got from NYC during the BOGO of CVS. I previously blogged about NYC pencils and they have good quality pencils so I bought four. I also grabbed a pair of l/g and nail polish that I split with my sister.

These are just random beauty products. The much raved about Maybelline Great Lash Mascara, Loreal Beauty tubes mascara on sale, the much-raved about Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque since it costs less than in the Philippines, a backup tube of my favorite DUO eyelash adhesive in dark, Garnier eye cream since I ran out, and some hair products: Dove Anti-frizz cream and Tresemme Curl Activator Spray which aren't available in the Philippines.

And lastly, my brushes from MAC. I got the 217 and 130. Originally, I wanted a 222 and a 224, too, but I couldn't find the 222 and then I decided to wait on the 224 since I have the 224SE anyway. I know it's no comparison, but I can't go crazy with makeup just yet.

So that's all I've got. Have a nice day!

Review: Loreal Clean Telescopic Mascara

I only keep two mascaras at a time because they only last a few months so to be able to make the most out of their short lifespans, I only buy two. So for now, I'm going to review Loreal Clean Telescopic Mascara. I tried it because I've been reading some good reviews about it.

First, let me show you a picture of my bare but curled lashes:

Here is a picture of my lashes with 1 coat of mascara. As you can see there is a some difference, nothing dramatic.

Here is a picture of my lashes after two coats:

As you can see, there is a big difference with the length of my lashes.

You should know that this mascara has a different wand from normal mascaras. The SA said that it was to prevent clumping, and you know what, it works! It doesn't clump and even when it does, it's so easy to remove them with any lash comb.

Take not though that it is not waterproof, but it does claim to be smudge-proof.

So here is the rundown of the pros and cons:

PROS
  • Really does lengthen your lashes
  • Doesn't clump

CONS
  • Does nothing to thicken your lashes
  • It smudges on me. I have uber oily lids BTW. 1 coat = minimal smudging. 2 coats = mega smudging!

The combination of a very hot, humid weather plus my really oily lids really beat this mascara.

TIPS: Do not touch your lashes once there is mascara already, or else you'll get spider lashes.

Will I buy this again? No. As much as this was a good everyday mascara, I don't want racoon eyes.
